Tickled pink to have you here!
As an undeniably introverted human, writing this intro RE: — well — myself, is a more -than-slightly-awkward experience. However, the fact that you're taking the time to be here means a good deal more to me than words dare articulate, so I'll do my darndest to see this thing through. No AI, ChatGPT, etc., to speed things along either. Just me, myself, this warm-ish cup of java, an oldie-but-goodie computer, an iPhone feat. current fave tunes streaming voraciously via two music streaming platforms (not at the same time, LOL -- listening to simultaneous streams would be...chaotic and then some, eh?), and my newly minted 19 year old cat Eric are to be found.
So, without further ado…
What brought you here?
Chances are you came from Chronic Oasis or The Multiply Music Effect. Or maybe we met at an event? Something else? Whatever the case may be, below you'll find 9 facts about me so you can get to know me a little better. So, without further ado, fact #1 is coming on up!
Fact #1: For almost 30 years I’ve been singing to my heart's content, discontent and everything in between.
Fact #2: From ages 5 to 15, I had an extraordinarily nurturing cat named Tina. I'll have to tell you the story re: how my family got her some day. Her presence in our life was much needed and loved.
Fact #3: The only fruit I’m not a huge fan is grapefruit. I’ll happily be proven wrong via recipe suggestions though!
Fact #4: Science was my favorite school subject and this fascination evolved into a specific interest in medicine, which continued well into adulthood. In fact, during my first year of university, all my classes encompassed a pre-med approach. My career took a different direction for two reasons: 1) A doctor who'd been practicing for over 20 years shared some wise words with me (and she knew me well): "Rosie, if you feel you've explored your other passions fully, and this is the career for you, then go for it. But if not, give those passions a go first. Then see where your career takes you. Medicine is here for you if/when you're here for it." And 2) I realized that the very long hours that are typically associated with the profession wouldn’t work too well with the lifestyle that comes with chronic caregiving.
Clearly I never became a doctor. But I do get to professionally collaborate with scientists of all sorts via Chronic Oasis nowadays, so that's pretty rad. And one might also say, full-circle. 😊
Fact #5: A belly laugh a day = beyond a-ok for this human, eh! I've been told that I have a perpetual gleam-in-the-eye situation happening. Do you agree? 😉
Fact #6: If I could snap my fingers and visit anywhere in the world today, it would be Iceland. I'd love to see where my Grandpa's family lived.
Fact #7: In December 2018, I was in a car accident. My perspective on life changed a good deal afterwards. I'll have to tell you this story sometime too. It's a wild one.
Fact #8: While I share openly about my experiences re: growing up with/taking care of Mama M., I’m otherwise a pretty private person. The majority of my personal relationships are offline. I'm the type of human who would post about getting married, like, 3 years after the fact. 😉
Fact #9: I'm intentionally phone-free (and other tech-free) as much as possible. If we meet online or in-person, you'll find that my phone is out of sight darn near all the time -- unless I'm using it to show you something. I do this so that I can be fully present with you. No 5000+ notifications distracting the living heck out of me. They can wait till we're finished. 😊
